Depending on what time of year you visit Iceland, the country will look completely different. Both views are gorgeous, it just depends what kind of adventure you want to embark on! During the summers, the sun is out all day and temperatures can reach a high of 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The winters are a bit different and temperatures are an average of 30 degrees Fahrenheit depending on the area you are in. Snow and ice cover the landscapes in Iceland at this time, making it incredibly beautiful. You will experience pretty extreme weather and drastic changes fairly often throughout the day. On my trip I had a lot of rain along with very strong wind gusts, then randomly throughout the day it would stop and the sun would come out. The weather is pretty unpredictable but if you pack properly and come prepared then it won’t be a problem at all!
Here are some of the top places to see in Iceland during the winter season!

Be Amazed by Gullfoss Falls! Gullfoss Falls is a top tourist attraction and a very impressive waterfall!
Hike Þingvellir National Park. Located East of Reyjakvik, Þingvellir is a must see sight of Iceland. This was my favorite place that I visited in during my stay! I was in awe of the views that stood before my eyes, it felt surreal.

Check out Strokkur and The Great Geysir! These are two active geyser sights. If you have never seen an active geyser before this is definitely something you should add to your list! It's a really cool experience to watch them erupt!

View Kerið. Kerið is a volcanic crater. In the winters the lake is usually frozen over by ice which makes for great photos with the contrast of the colorful crater walls surrounding it!

Visit one of the wonders of the world! The Blue Lagoon is one of the most touristy spots in Iceland, but I have to say it's totally worth it! It is near the airport so keep that in mind if you want to make the lagoon one of your first or last stops during your trip!
*If you are on a budget, there are plenty of natural hot springs around the country!
See the Northern Lights. While you are visiting Iceland, you should definitely try to see the Northern Lights! Tours run every night, it is impossible to know when they will be visible so most tours have a guarantee where you can continue to try each night until you spot them!
@thepresentexplorer How awesome! I'm excited to hear about it.
@PaulGregoryArdoin I had no idea! I do feel grateful I was able to go, thanks for the tip!
@JoeTether It truly is a beautiful country. I have visited Reykjavik, keep an eye out for a post about that one!
you may have been among the last to do this trip: one of the main airlines that essentially made iceland a feasible tourist attraction recently went bankrupt: https://www.npr.org/2020/02/14/805934982/wow-airlines-bankruptcy-puts-a-chill-on-icelands-tourism
What a wonderful country! So much to see and all so beautiful. Did you visit Reykjavik as well?
