Weekend in Mirissa, Sri Lanka

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

Are you currently planning your trip to Sri Lanka? Great decision, you will love it there! If you are a lover of the beach, a laid back atmosphere, and that tropical island feel, be sure to add Mirissa to your trips itinerary! Mirissa is a beach town located all the way south west on the island along the coast.

I will share with you all of the hot spots to see in the Mirissa area. This is a very fun and beautiful town to hangout in. Keep in mind that this is a touristic area so there are a lot of people and the prices are always higher in touristy towns. Depending on the style of traveling you are looking for you may want to only stay a day or two or you may find this is exactly what you were looking for and could stay an entire week here!

What to do at Mirissa Beach

Relax

Feel free to either bring your towel to lay out on the sand or rent a lounge chair from one of the restaurants along the beach. In front of each one you can find their happy hour menu and specials if that helps you decide which one! If you choose that route you are able to order something to eat and maybe have a piña colada delivered right to your seat!

Climb Parrot Rock

Parrot Rock is another attraction at Mirissa Beach. Its a big rock that stretches out from the shore that you are free to climb up and check out the view. It is a very quick trail but requires walking through the ocean and narrow steep paths to get to the top.

Snorkel with Turtles

In between Parrot Rock and Coconut Tree Hill is Turtle Bay. The bay gets its name from the sea turtles that swim around and you are able to rent snorkels to see them up close if you would like.

Watch the Sunset at Coconut Tree Hill

This is one of the most exciting places to view a sunset. The hill is covered in palm trees with a view above the water. Coconut Tree Hill can be located by walking along Mirissa Beach past the restaurants, Parrot Rock, Turtle Bay and around to the next long part of the island. It's only about a 15 minute walk from Parrot Rock.

Have dinner on the beach

In the day time the restaurants along the coast have lounge chairs and umbrellas, but once it gets time for the sun to set they transform their lounge areas to magical candle lit dinners on the beach. Pick a table, dig your toes in the sand, be amazed by the vibrant colors of Sri Lankas sunsets, and see how beautiful the beach looks lit up by lanterns and fires.

Night Club

Each evening one of the restaurants will host a club serving drinks and fun music. The only way to find out which one it will be is to ask around or once night hits look for the lights and follow the sounds of the music!

Find the street art

Mirissa is a beachy town covered in colorful artwork. Walk through the streets of the town and discover unique paintings all around!

Food & Stay

Shady Lane

There is an amazing outdoor brunch spot that serves acai bowls, avocado toast, sandwiches and fresh coconut drinks called Shady Lane which is located in the town. I highly recommend checking it out while you are there!

Mister Hostel

There are a bunch of hostels around Mirissa to choose from but I will recommenced one called Mister Hostel. It's walking distance from the beach, has an awesome hangout area, offers food and yoga and has comfy beds!

I hope you enjoy your relaxing, beautiful stay in Mirissa and found this helpful or planning your trip!

I've never seen a beach so lush and inviting! It's like you get your own personal palm tree overhang
